MLA who hosted beef party thrashed by BJP legislators in J-K House

Independent Jammu and Kashmir legislator Engineer Rashid was beaten by BJP MLAs inside the state assembly on Thursday, a day after he organised a “beef party” to oppose restrictions on cow slaughter.

Chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah condemned the attack on Rashid.

Before the assembly proceedings began, BJP members caught hold of Rashid and started thrashing him just as he walked into the House. Footage of the incident was beamed on television news channels.

Sources said Rashid could have been severely injured if opposition party members had not come forward and helped stop the thrashing.
