State Finance Minister and Jayalalithaa’s loyalist O Panneerselvam has been selected by the AIADMK leadership as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Having served as chief minister for six months from September 2001 when Jayalalithaa had to step down because of the Tansi case, Panneerselvam has a record of being tried and tested.
He was the finance minister in Jayalalithaa’s cabinet. He was also made the chief minister earlier in September 2001 when the election of Jayalalithaa as the CM was quashed.
Zee News reports, “some of the names of Jayalalithaa’s cabinet ministers including O Panneerselvam, Natham Viswanathan and V Senthil Balaji besides former Chief Secretary and Advisor to Tamil Nadu government, Sheela Balakrishnan are doing the rounds for the top post.”
He has remained more loyal than expected, and never made any effort to be remembered as an ex-CM.
