Air filters are often overlooked, but they can greatly improve the quality and comfort of your vehicle. An interesting study has shown that 95 % of motorists have reported issues with air quality in the vehicle, but only 26 % knew if they had an auto filter.
In this article, we will discuss more about the air filter and whether it can be reused. Let’s begin!
The Short Version Is: Yes
No matter whether you’re using a diesel or car filter, they can be reused at least once provided there’s no significant damage. However, you might be warned by filter manufacturers that this is not a good idea. You will be fine if these five steps are followed.
1. Locate
Depending on your vehicle’s make and model, you may have to change the location of the car’s air filter. It is typically located under your hood in a rectangular box known as the cold air collector. To confirm, make sure to consult the owner’s manual online and in print.
2. Remove
Either cleaning or replacing the air filter, it is necessary to remove the old one. This is not a difficult task, but you should do it with the engine off.
This involves removing screws and clamps that are likely to be holding the housing. After you have removed these items, lift the container and take out the filter.
3. Vacuum
Use a vacuum as a cleaner for your car or truck’s air filter. Either buy a hand vacuum made for this purpose or attach it to your regular household vacuum. This will remove any larger pieces of dirt or grime and allow you to get on with the rest of your cleaning.
4. Soak by Hand or Invest
An alternative to washing an air filter manually is to soak it with water. After you have extracted as much from the filter as possible, you should soak it in water. Another option you may consider is the use of a specially designed vacuum cleaner.
These are not as affordable, but they are made for diesel engine filters and any other canister style filters. They are often well worth the money for the many times you can clean an air filter and reuse it.
5. Replace
After you’re certain the filter is dry and clean, it should be replaced. They do not need to be fastened down. Then, secure the clamps and screws again, and you’re ready for roll.
The Car Air Filter can Be Cleaned
If you have the right tools and the right approach to cleaning your vehicle’s air filter, it can be reused. This will make your car more comfortable and reduce the risk of seasonal allergies.
