Making your candles can seem a little primitive. Isn’t that what shops are for? However, there’s something very satisfying about making candles. They also make wonderful gifts. You will be amazed at the ease of creating your candles in different sizes, scents, colors, and designs. And you’ll be able to impress many people with your amazing skills.
Step 1 – Select Your Wax Base
First, decide what type of candle maker and then choose the base. Paraffin was the most used candle ingredient. It is still the most commonly used for commercial candles. It is however petroleum-based and can cause problems for some. Another popular option is. It’s simple to use and also a by-product of animal agriculture. Another option is to use soy-based candles, which have become more popular in recent times. These waxes can be bought in pellet form at craft shops. For those who enjoy making candles at home, the candle making kit can be used for that purpose.
Step 2: Prep your Work Area
Candle-making can be messy. Clear some counter space, and cover it with newspaper, craft paper, or a drop cloth. This is your designated workspace. All your tools and materials must be contained within this area.
Step 3: Melt the wax
You can melt the wax by using indirect heat with a traditional double-boiler. On the stove, place a large pot with water and the wax inside it. You can make candles by boiling the water in your bottom pot.
Step 4: Prepare your container
Your melted wax should be poured into mason jars and decorative glass jars. Otherwise, it will just look like a bunch of wax. Remove the lids from your jars, and prepare the wicks. Attach the wick to a metal wick holder. Next, cut the length of the wick 3 inches above the height in the glass jar. The metal wick holder should be dipped in the melted wax.
Step 5: Add the Fragrance
To achieve the desired scent strength, add a few drops from your fragrance oil to the melted candle. Another option is to add color to your candles at this point. The color of the candle can be added in both liquid and wax forms. You can also add color to the pot by adding drops or colorized pellets. You can slowly add color until you reach the desired shade. To add more color to your candles, you can use wax-based crayons.
Step 6: Remove the wax from the Heat
Allow the melted wax to cool for a few minutes after it has been removed from the heat. Allow it to cool slightly before you pour it into your jars.
Step 7 – Pour the wax into a container
Put the melted wax in a glass jar. Slowly pour the melted wax into your glass jar to ensure that you don’t splash any hot wax on your counters or yourself.
Step 8: Set the Wick
Wrap the top of the wick around the writing utensil using a wrapping utensil. Then place the utensil on the top of your jar. This will help to keep the wick straight so that it cools and hardens properly around it.
Step 9: Let the Candles Cool
Let the wax cool. The candle will begin to shrink once it has cooled. You can top it with a professional-looking finish, and then let it cool off again. If you are making pillar candles, this is the time to take out the candle from its mold. This can be difficult. Take your time, and you will see the candles come out of their molds if it is done carefully.
